General Data
This TASK gives the procedure to restore the surface finish of the HPC Stage 6 Rotor Blade by vibro-polishing.
This repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in the relevant inspection procedures (identified by the applicable part number) located in section 72-41-15.
The blades must be repaired, where necessary, and inspected before vibro-polishing.
The HPC Stage 6 Rotor Blades can only have this repair completed on them three times.
Where reference is made to a SUBTASK in a task in the form "TASK, SUBTASK" the operator must read and apply the complete TASK. The SUBTASK is listed only when the TASK gives the options for the processing of the component. The specified SUBTASK instructs what option must be used during application of the TASK for the successful completion of the Repair Scheme VRS6068.
TASKS Identified by SPM TASK are in the Standard Practices Manual (SPM).
NOTE
NOTE
It is possible that some materials in the consumable materials chart cannot be used for some or all of the necessary applications. Before you use the materials, make sure the types, quantities and applications of the materials necessary are legally permitted in your location. All persons must obey all applicable federal, state, local and provincial laws and regulations when it is necessary to work with these materials.
To identify the consumable materials, refer to the Overhaul Processes and Consumables Index (PCI).
Other necessary consumable materials are referred to in the SPM TASKs in this TASK.

Reject.
If the repair identification symbol and a /2 suffix are engraved adjacent to the part number.
Continue with the repair.
If there is no repair identification symbol or if the repair identification symbol is engraved with a /1 suffix or with no suffix adjacent to the part number.
Examine the component for the repair identification symbol, a 1 in a triangle, and any suffixes.
Examine the HPC Stage 6 Rotor Blade to find, if VRS6068 was done before.
SUBTASK 72-41-15-220-175 Make sure that the Component(s) can be Vibro Polished
Apply a mask or maskants to the blade root. Make sure that the minimum area of the HPC Stage 6 Rotor Blade gas washed surface is covered by the mask or maskants.
Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-25-380-501 and/or use IAE 3R18550 Mask.
Apply a mask or maskants to the HPC Stage 6 Rotor Blade.
SUBTASK 72-41-15-350-071 Apply the Mask to the Component
Refer to Figure.
Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-25-380-501.
The surface finish is to be 16 microinches (0.40 micrometers) maximum on a minimum of 70 percent of the surface area.
On the remainder of the blade, the surface finish is to be between 16 microinches (0.40 micrometers) and 32 microinches (0.80 micrometers).
Do not have more than 40 blades for one cubic foot of the vibro-polishing media.
Option 3: Method Two consumables.
Use one of the following options to get the surface finish limits. The dimension of the superfinishing media is to be 10 mm x 10 mm maximum.
Polish the surfaces in the area specified AB.
Vibro-polish the HPC Stage 6 Rotor Blade airfoil and adjacent annulus surfaces.
SUBTASK 72-41-15-380-067-A00 Vibro-Polish the Component(s), Assembly A
Refer to Figure.
Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-25-380-501.
A maximum of 10 microinches (0.25 micrometers) surface finish is permitted on blade airfoil surfaces.
On the remainder of the blade, the maximum surface finish is to be 16 microinches (0.40 micrometers).
