Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-320-077 Remove all Damage and/or Coat from the Repair Area

    2. Refer toFigure and Figure.

      1. Machine or grind the front outer flange.

      2. Remove the minimum quantity of material necessary to remove the remaining plasma coat and wear or damage.

        Remove the minimum quantity of material necessary to got a 0.003 in (0.08 mm) minimum coating thickness after finish machining.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-110-069 Clean the Diffuser Case Assembly

      1. Clean the case after you machine or grind.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-230-065 Do a Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection of the Front Outer Flange Face

      1. If you removed coating and damage by grinding, do a fluorescent penetrant inspection of the front face.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-220-098 Examine the Front Outer Flange Face

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Do a dimensional inspection of the repaired area.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-380-059 Mask all Areas that are not to be Plasma Spray Coated

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-380-060 Prepare the Front Face of the Front Outer Flange for Plasma Spray

      1. Prepare the flange for plasma spray.

      2. Do the procedure in the SPM TASK 70-34-18-380-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-340-059 Apply Plasma Spray to the Front Face of the Front Outer Flange

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Apply plasma spray to the front face of the front outer flange.

      2. Do the procedure in SPM TASK 70-34-03-340-501.

        Apply sufficient thickness of coating to get the final machining dimensions given in Figure.

        Final coating thickness must be 0.003 in. (0.08 mm) minimum.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-350-103 Remove the Mask and the Overspray Coating

      1. After the plasma spray is applied and the part is cool, remove the mask.

      2. Remove the tape residue.

        Do the procedure in the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

      1. Remove the overspray coating from the areas indicated in the figure.

      2. Use a non-metallic scraper.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-320-078 Machine the Front Face of the Front Outer Flange

      NOTE

      All dimensions apply when Surfaces DJ and DE are flat in 0.005 in. (0.13 mm) and Diameters DH and DF maintain a clearance envelope of 25.210 in. (640.33 mm) and 28.226 in. (717.96 mm) in a freee or held condition. Contact is permitted only on Surfaces DJ, DX, DY and DE and Diameters DH and DF. In a free condition, Surfaces DJ and DE must be flat in 0.010 in. (0.25 mm) and Diameters DH and DF are between 25.174 and 25.239 in. (639.42 and 641.07 mm) and 28.197 and 28.263 in. (716.20 and 717.88 mm) respectively.
    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Finish machine the repaired area to the limits given in Figure.

      1. Clean the case after machining.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-220-099 Examine the Front Face of the Front Outer Flange

      1. Do a visual and dimensional inspection of the repair area.

      2. Do the procedure in the SPM TASK 70-34-03-340-501-002.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-350-104 Identify the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Mark the repair number VRS3752 on the diffuser case adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to Figure. Mark the part by the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

        NOTE

        If the VRS number is marked on the part, do not mark the repair number again.

        Use the vibration peen method.
