Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-282 Visually Inspect the Part Markings

    2. Visually inspect the part markings for evidence of previous repair.

    3. If the part is marked with VRS3854, refer to Repair, VRS3854 TASK 72-50-53-300-089 (REPAIR-089) for nickel plate removal instructions before proceeding with this repair.

    4. If the part is marked with VRS3755, refer to Repair, VRS3755 TASK 72-50-53-300-084 (REPAIR-084) for coating removal instructions before proceeding with this repair.

    5. If the part is marked with VRS3112, or has no VRS markings, proceed with Step of this repair.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-088 Machine the Seal Housing Bore of the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. If there is chromium plate.

      2. Remove the chromium plate that is on the part by SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503. If chromium plate is not removed fully by SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503, then you do grind operation to remove the chromium plate.

      1. If there is no chromium plate, do a machine operation to remove the damage from the seal housing bore.

      2. The diameter must be 5.766 in. (146.46 mm) maximum. Maintain the surface finish given in the figure. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage and to permit sufficient plating thickness.

      1. Clean the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-143 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. If you did a grind operation to remove the chromium plate, then you do a local fluorescent penetrant inspection of the repair area.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

      3. Use medium sensitivity, water washable. No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-110-102 Clean the Repair Area of Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Clean the repair area locally.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-380-053 Apply a Mask to the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Apply a mask to the areas of the turbine exhaust case that are not to be plated.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-24-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-330-063 Chromium Plate the Seal Housing Bore of the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Chromium plate the seal housing bore.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

      3. Part is stainless steel, with a hardness less than HRC 40.

      4. Apply chromium plate to a sufficient thickness to permit finish machining. Plating outside the repair area is permitted but must be removed.

    3. Remove the mask.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-180 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Do a visual inspection of the plating for finish and bond.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-33-02-220-502.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-089 Grind the Seal Housing Bore of the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Do a grind operation of the seal housing bore after chromium plate.

      1. Clean the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-093 Identify the Repair

      1. Mark VRS3112 on the repaired turbine exhaust case adjacent to the part number.

      2. Make a permanent mark by the procedure given in SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

      3. Use vibration peen procedure.

      4. Remove high metal caused by marking the number.
