General

This TASK gives the procedure to install the No. 4 bearing compartment scavenge valve to the engine.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the Fig/item number.

Lubricate all threads and abutment faces of nuts and bolts with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS , unless other lubricants are referred to in the procedure.

For the torque tightening procedures, refer to SPM TASK 70-41-00-400-501 and TASK 70-41-01-400-501.

For the lockwire data and procedures refer to SPM TASK 70-42-05-400-501.

To identify, lubricate and install seal rings, refer to SPM TASK 70-44-01-400-501.

For the data on the electrical connectors refer to SPM TASK 70-43-00-400-501 and TASK 70-43-01-400-501.

The engine must be isolated from starting air supply, fuel supply and electrical power source while you do this procedure.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-087 Install the No. 4 Bearing Compartment Scavenge Valve

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Remove all the covers/caps/plugs from the openings.

      3. Clean the de-oiler case.

      1. Make a clean lint free cloth moist with CoMat 01-124 ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL.

      2. Use the cloth to clean the valve mating face on the de-oiler case.

      4. Install No. 4 Bearing Compartment Scavenge Valve (79-23-51, 01-130) sealing ring 1 off.

      1. Lubricate the sealing ring with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

      2. Install the sealing ring into the groove in the valve.

      5. Install the valve to the de-oiler case.

      1. Align the bolt holes in the valve with the threaded holes in the de-oiler case.

      2. Install the valve into the hole in the de-oiler case and safety with the three bolts No. 4 Bearing Compartment Scavenge Valve (79-23-51, 01-120).

      3. Torque the bolts to 85 lbfin to 105 lbfin (10 Nm to 12 Nm).

    2. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-088 Connect the Oil Tube

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Connect the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-500) to the valve.

    3. Connect the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-500) to the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-100).

    4. Connect the oil tube OIL-SCAVENGE OIL TUBES-ENGINE (79-22-49, 05-100) to the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-500).

    5. Torque the bolts and the nuts of the clips on the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-500) to 36 lbfin to 40 lbfin (4.07 Nm to 4.52 Nm).

    6. Torque the nut of the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-100) to 566 lbfin to 611 lbfin (64.00 Nm to 69.00 Nm) with IAE 1R18003 Wrench 1 off.

    7. Torque the nut of the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-500) to 566 lbfin to 611 lbfin (64.00 Nm to 69.00 Nm) with IAE 1R18003 Wrench 1 off.

    8. Torque the nut of the oil tube OIL-SCAVENGE OIL TUBES-ENGINE (79-22-49, 05-100) to 159 lbfin to 177 lbfin (18.00 Nm to 20.00 Nm).

    9. Safety the nuts of the oil tubes Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-100 and OIL-SCAVENGE OIL TUBES-ENGINE 79-22-49, 05-100) with CoMat 02-147 LOCKWIRE.

    3. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-089 Connect the Air Tube and the Electrical Connector

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Connect the air tube AIR-BEARING COMPARTMENT COOLING & SEALING TUBES (75-22-49, 07-100) to the valve.

    3. Torque the nut of the air tube to 204 lbfin to 221 lbfin (23.00 Nm to 25.00 Nm).

    4. NOTE

      Carefully install the lockwire not to loosen the bolts of the valve.

      Safety the nuts of the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-500) and the air tube to the two bolts of the valve with CoMat 02-147 LOCKWIRE.

    5. Connect the electrical connector 4006EN-A to the valve.

    4. SUBTASK 72-00-60-210-062 Visually Inspect the Electrical Backshells and Cable Clamps

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Make sure that all the applicable connectors, backshells and cable clamps are secure.

    3. Make sure that all the applicable backshells and cable clamps are safetied with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE. Refer to SPM TASK 70-42-05-400-501.
