Refer to TASK 72-42-35-100-000 (CLEANING-000).
Clean the cooling duct.
SUBTASK 72-42-35-110-058 Clean the No. 4 Bearing Front Cooling Duct
Thread the spacer stud to 0.190-32 UNJF-3A.
Only rolled threads are permitted. Surface roughness of the rolled threads must be not more than 32 microinches (0.8 micrometers) before you apply coat.
Locally fabricate the spacer from AMS 5662 to the dimensions given in Figure.
Do the procedure in the SPM TASK 70-37-32-370-501.
Heat treat the spacer.
Hardness must be Rockwell C36 minimum or equivalent.
Perform hardness check on the spacer.
SUBTASK 72-42-35-370-054 Locally Fabricate and Heat Treat the Spacer
Use a rotary austenitic stainless steel wire brush or a Silicon carbide wheel to remove oxides. Refer to SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.
Clean the repair area. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.
Clean the area to be welded.
SUBTASK 72-42-35-110-059 Clean the Repair Area of the No. 4 Bearing Front Cooling Duct
Do the procedure in the SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.
Use the manual gas tungsten arc weld method.
Use CoMat 03-284 WELDING FILLER WIRE, NiBASE filler weld wire.
Weld the spacer to the cooling duct.
SUBTASK 72-42-35-310-053 Weld the Locally Fabricated Spacer into the No. 4 Bearing Front Cooling Duct
Do the procedure in the SPM TASK 70-37-01-370-501.
Stress-relieve the cooling duct.
SUBTASK 72-42-35-370-053 Stress-Relieve the No. 4 Bearing Front Cooling Duct
Do the procedure in the SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501 or SPM TASK 70-23-02-230-501.
No cracks are permitted.
Do a fluorescent penetrant inspection of the cooling duct.
SUBTASK 72-42-35-220-057 Examine the No. 4 Bearing Front Cooling Duct
The hardness must be Rockwell C36 minimum or equivalent.
Do a hardness check on the parent material adjacent to the welded spacer.
SUBTASK 72-42-35-220-059 Do a Hardness Check on the No. 4 Bearing Front Cooling Duct
Refer to Figure and TASK 72-42-35-200-000 (INSPECTION/CHECK).
Examine the diameters of the cooling duct and the location of the spacer(s).
SUBTASK 72-42-35-220-062 Examine the No. 4 Bearing Front Cooling Duct
Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-39-380-501. Use CoMat 10-130 ANTIGALLING COMPOUND.
Apply antigalling compound on the spacer threads.
