General
This TASK gives the procedure to remove the LP turbine module in a vertical position. Refer to the TASKS which follow for other related procedures:
TASK 72-00-50-020-002 (REMOVAL-002) Remove the LP turbine module - horizontal (Method 1)
TASK 72-00-50-020-003-B00 (REMOVAL-004) Remove LP turbine module without TEC - SBE 72-0063, A1 engines.
Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.
Discard all rubber seal rings removed in this procedure.
Seal all openings to prevent contamination from unwanted materials.
The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

Remove the engine from the transport stand and install it on the support pedestals. Refer to TASK 71-00-00-560-001 (REMOVAL-001).
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-192 Remove the Engine from the Transport Stand
Install the IAE 1P16002 Cradle pedestal 1 off below the diffuser case about 1.0 in. (25.4 mm) forward of the diffuser case rear flange.
Remove the IAE 1F10085 Adjustable support pedestal 2 off.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-193 Install the Cradle Pedestal
Remove the inlet cone. Refer to TASK 72-38-11-020-001.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-194 Remove the Inlet Cone
Remove the module dressings. Refer to TASK 72-00-50-020-001-A00 (REMOVAL-001, CONFIG-001) SBE 72-0063 - A1 engines.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-195 Remove the Module Dressings
Refer to Figure.
Make sure the three jaws of the IAE 1P17038 Slide puller 1 off are in the outward position. Make sure that the three jaws are correctly engaged behind the flange at the compartment cover.
Do Step until the compartment cover is free from the exhaust case.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-196 Remove the No. 5 Bearing Compartment Cover
Refer to Figure.
Install the IAE 1J12221 Impact hammer 1 off into the turbine shaft. Make sure that the piston of the impact hammer is correctly aligned with the LP turbine shaft.
Do Step until the blind cap is free from the turbine shaft.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-197 Remove the Blind Cap of the LP Turbine Shaft
Install the support B (part of the IAE 1J12260 Spanner wrench 1 off) to the retaining ring of the LP compressor disk. Attach the support B with four bolts.
Assemble the IAE 1F10016 Mechanical wrench 1 off with hoist to the spanner wrench.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-198 Remove the Turbine Shaft Front Lock Nut
Turn the LP compressor/intermediate case module, the HP system module and the LP turbine module from the horizontal to the vertical. Refer to TASK 72-00-50-560-001 (REMOVAL-003).
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-199 Turn the LP Compressor/Intermediate Case Module, the HP System Module and the LP Turbine Module from the Horizontal to the Vertical
Refer to Figure.
Remove the two bolts and key washers which attach the No. 5 Bearing Packing Transfer Tube to the No. 5 Bearing Nozzle.
Install the IAE 1P16624 Slide Puller 1 off into No. 5 Bearing Packing Transfer Tube.
Move the knocker puller rearwards quickly and hit the handle to remove the No. 5 Bearing Packing Transfer Tube from the No. 5 Bearing Nozzle.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-225 Remove the No. 5 Bearing Nozzle
Refer to Figure.
Install the IAE 1F10052 Two cables sling 1 off to the rear spools of the IAE 1F10058 Handling fixture 1 off.
Install the IAE 1F10084 Support fixture 1 off to the IAE 1F10063 Expanding retainer 1 off.

CAUTION
MAKE SURE THAT THE NUTS ARE TIGHTENED. THE NUTS LOCK THE EXPANDING RETAINER TO THE HANDLING FIXTURE AND HOLD THE LP TURBINE ROTOR IN AXIAL DIRECTION. IF NOT CORRECTLY HELD, THE LP TURBINE CASE AND ROTOR PARTS CAN BE DAMAGED DURING HANDLING OF THE LP TURBINE MODULE.Attach the expanding retainer to the handling fixture with the two nuts. Tighten the nuts.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-200 Attach the Handling Fixture to the LP Turbine Module

CAUTION
HOLD THE BOLTS IN THEIR POSITION WHEN YOU REMOVE THE NUTS FROM THE BOLTS. DO NOT TURN THE BOLTS OR MAKE TO-AND-FRO MOVEMENTS. THE SHAFT/DISK FLANGE AND/OR THE BOLTS CAN BE DAMAGED BY SCORES.Remove the 100 nuts and bolts which attach the LP turbine case to the HP turbine case. Remove the seven brackets from the flange.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-201 Remove the Bolts and the Nuts from the HP Turbine Case Rear Flange and the LP Turbine Case Front Flange
NOTE
The procedure in Step makes easy the release of the inner subassembly from the LP turbine shaft.Hold the LP turbine shaft rear end and turn the inner subassembly counter-clockwise by one turn to loosen it.
Install the inner subassembly of the hydraulic pusher/puller (which is made up a spanner, a plunger and a nut C) into the threaded hole in the LP turbine shaft.
NOTE
Make sure that the hydraulic connection of the hydraulic cylinder is at the opposite side of the cylinder.Attach the outer subassembly of the hydraulic pusher/puller (which is made up of a guide, a cylinder and a hydraulic cylinder) to a front flange of the LP stub shaft. The four stoppers of the guide must be in line with the scallops of the LP stub shaft.
Install IAE 1J12220 Hydraulic pusher/puller 1 off to the front flange of the LP stub shaft as follows:
Connect the IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump 1 off to the hydraulic connection on the hydraulic pusher/puller.

CAUTION
DO NOT SUPPLY THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER/PULLER WITH MORE THAN 7000 PSI (483 BAR) PRESSURE. TOO MUCH HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER/PULLER.NOTE
Tighten the jackscrews and operate the hydraulic pump at the same time to prevent overloading of the handling fixture.Operate slowly the hydraulic pump to disconnect the spline between the LP stub shaft and the LP turbine shaft. At the same time tighten the jackscrews to break the tight fit. Apply an equal amount of force all around the flange to disengage the flanges smoothly.
Put the dry ice on to area A1. Refer to Figure.
Do Step.

WARNING
DO NOT TOUCH DRY ICE WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES, DRY ICE CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.Use CoMat 02-149 DRY ICE if you cannot disconnect the spline with 7000 psi (483 bar) pressure.
Loosen and remove the four screws which lock the pins to the guide of the IAE 1J12220 Hydraulic pusher/puller.
Remove the hydraulic pusher/puller from the LP stub shaft as follows:
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-202-001 Method 1: Disconnect the LP Turbine Shaft from the LP Stub Shaft
Refer to Figure.
Install the IAE 1J12512 Hydraulic pusher 1 off to the front flange of the LP stub shaft as follows:
Connect the IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump 1 off to the hydraulic connection on the hydraulic pusher.
Supply the hydraulic pusher with pressure of 7000 psi (483 bar) or less. If the LP turbine shaft moves rearward within the maximum pressure, continue pressure supply until the piston of the hydraulic cylinder comes at the rear end. Go to Step.
If the LP turbine shaft does not move with the maximum pressure, stop pressure supply. Go to Step.

CAUTION
DO NOT SUPPLY THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER/PULLER WITH MORE THAN 7000 PSI (483 BAR) PRESSURE. TOO MUCH HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER/PULLER.NOTE
Tighten the jackscrews and operate the hydraulic pump at the sane time to prevent overloading of the handling fixture.Slowly operate the hydraulic pump to disconnect the spline between the LP stub shaft and the LP turbine shaft. At the same time tighten the jackscrews to break the tight fit at the LP turbine case. Apply an equal amount of force all around the flange to disengage the flanges smoothly.
Remove the hydraulic pusher (Refer to Step).
Put the dry ice on to area A1. Refer to Figure.
Install the hydraulic pusher (Refer to Step).

CAUTION
DO NOT SUPPLY THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER WITH MORE THAN 10000 PSI (690 BAR) PRESSURE. TOO MUCH HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER.Do Step with hydraulic pressure of 10000 psi (690 bar) or less.

WARNING
DO NOT TOUCH DRY ICE WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES. DRY ICE CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.Cool the LP turbine shaft with CoMat 02-149 DRY ICE.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-202-002 Method 2: Disconnect the LP Turbine Shaft from the LP Stub Shaft.
Install the guide ring A2 (part of IAE 1J12280 Guide bar 1 off) on to the lock nut at the rear face of the stage 2 turbine disk. Refer to Figure.
Install the IAE 1M14127 Support plate 2 off in the six o'clock and the twelve o'clock position to the LP turbine case front flange. Connect each segment of the support plates with the seven bolts and nuts. Refer to Figure.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-203 Prepare the LP Turbine Module for Removal
Refer to Figure.
Remove the guide ring A2 and install the guide ring A3 to the lock nut at the rear flange of the stage 2 turbine disk. Refer to Figure.
Remove the guide ring A3 and install the guide ring A1 to the lock nut at the rear flange of the stage 2 turbine disk. Refer to Figure.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-204 Remove the LP Turbine Module
Remove the adjusting ring from the LP turbine shaft. use the IAE 1J12282 Expanding pliers 1 off. Refer to Figure.

CAUTION
INCREASE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE LP TURBINE SHAFT IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REMOVAL OF THE LP TURBINE MODULE. IF THE LP TURBINE SHAFT STAYS COOL FOR A LONG TIME, CONDENSTATION CAN BE MADE ON THE SHAFT.
CAUTION
DO NOT USE A BURNER. USE OF A BURNER CAN DAMAGE THE LP TURBINE SHAFT.Increase the metal temperature in the area A1 of the LP turbine shaft to room temperature with the use of a hot air gun. Refer to Figure.
Remove the dry ice it it is used.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-205 Remove the Adjusting Ring
Make sure that the IAE 1F10101 Counter weights kit 1 off is installed to the
IAE 1F10049 Vertical stand 1 off.
Lock the vertical stand in position with the four wheel brakes.
Refer to Figure.
NOTE
If required, the IAE 1M14146 Support plate 2 off can be removed from the turbine case front flange and the LP Turbine shaft before the LP turbine module is installed on the vertical stand.Lift the LP turbine module above the vertical stand. Align the front end of the LP turbine shaft to the center hole of the vertical stand.
SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-206 Install the LP Turbine Module to the Vertical Stand
NOTE
Refer to Figure.
Turn the knob clockwise to disengage the clamps of the IAE 1F10063 Expanding retainer 1 off.
Turn the handwheel (part of the IAE 1F10084 Support fixture 1 off) clockwise to disengage the support from the LP turbine shaft.
