TASK 71-00-00-700-002 Test No. 2 - Wet Motor Leak Check, Testing-002

V2500-A1: General

Instructions to operate the engine, engine safety precautions and other general information are found in Engine Safety Precautions and Engine Operation Limits, Guidelines and Special Precautions. Refer to TASK 71-00-00-700-050-A00 (TESTING-000, CONFIG-001) and TASK 71-00-00-700-051-A00 (TESTING-000, CONFIG-001).

You can use this test to do an inspection of the fuel distribution and oil system for leaks after you replace or repair a component.

NOTE

Large quantities of fuel can collect in the engine if the fuel selector is in the FUEL ON mode for more than the maximum time specified.

NOTE

If you see oil wetness from the No. 4 bearing compartment weep tube exit at the bottom of the turbine exhaust case, and you see the wetness after consecutive starting cycles, do the dry out procedure that follows before you advance the TLA above idle power.

NOTE

Run the engine at Approach Idle for 20 minutes. Inspect the No. 4 bearing compartment weep tube exit at the bottom of the turbine exhaust case for signs of oil. If you see wetness, contact IAE for instructions.

CAUTION

DO NOT MOTOR THE ENGINE MORE THAN THE LIMIT OR YOU CAN DAMAGE THE STARTER.

Procedure

    1. Wet Motor the Engine and Check for Leaks

    1. Do the necessary steps by the instructions in Pre-Rig the Engine for Testing. Refer to TASK 71-00-00-700-020 (TESTING-020).

    2. V2500-A1: Do the Oil and Fuel System Priming Procedure, as necessary. Refer to TASK 71-00-00-700-061-A00 (TESTING-000, CONFIG-001).

    3. V2500-A5: Do the Oil and Fuel System Priming Procedure, as necessary. Refer to TASK 71-00-00-700-061-B00 (TESTING-000, CONFIG-002).

    4. Open the slave nacelle system ducts and make sure they are held open during engine operation.

    5. Make sure that the ignition is OFF and disarmed.

    6. Make sure that the fuel is in the FUEL OFF mode.

    7. Set the Engine Interface Unit (EIU) inputs for the wet motor mode. Refer to Figure.

      8. Motor the engine with the starter.

      1. Look for an indication of positive oil pressure, N1, and N2.

      2. Do not continue to motor the engine, if there is not an indication of positive oil pressure.

      3. Do not motor the engine for more than two minutes.

    9. Make a selection of the FUEL ON mode.

    10. Look to make sure the fuel vapors go out of the exhaust for a maximum of 20 seconds.

    11. If possible while you motor the engine do an inspection for leaks.

    12. Make a selection of the FUEL OFF mode.

      13. Continue to motor the engine for a minimum of one minute to dry the engine.

      1. Do not motor for more than two minutes.

    14. Stop the engine.

    15. Do an inspection of the engine for leaks.

    16. Correct the leaks and do the test again as necessary.

    17. If more tests are to be done, close the slave nacelle system ducts.

    18. Do the necessary steps by the instructions in De-Rig the Engine after Testing. Refer to TASK 71-00-00-700-021 (TESTING-021).
