Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-219 Prepare the Areas for Weld

    2. Prepare the repair area for weld by mechanically cleaning area for bright metal finish. Use a rotary austenitic stainless steel wire brush or silicon carbide abrasive wheel.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-110-189 Clean the Areas to be Welded

      1. Clean the surfaces to be welded fully and the adjacent heat effected area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-145 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection of the Full Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Do a fluorescent penetrant inspection of the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-02-230-501.

        No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-310-087 Weld the Damaged Front Outer Flange Boltholes and/or Locating Pinhole

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Weld the damaged front outer flange boltholes and/or locating pinhole. Use the Gas Tungsten Arc Weld (GTAW) procedure.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-176 Do a Machine Operation of the Weld Area

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Do a machine operation of the welded front outer flange boltholes and/or locating pinhole to the dimensions.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-370-104 Remove all the Externals and Oil Tubes

      1. If this procedure was not done before, remove all the externals, oil tubes, helicoils and nut plate details.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-370-105 Do a Stress-Relief of the Turbine Exhaust Case (Oven)

      1. Do a stress-relief of the turbine exhaust case in an oven.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-37-13-370-501, Cycle 6A.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-122 Finish Weld Areas

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Finish weld areas as necessary and finish weld must be 0.000 to 0.010 in. (0.00 to 0.25 mm) above parent material on all sides. Do not remove adjacent parent material that is on the part.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-268 Hardness Check of the Repaired Area

      1. Do a hardness check in area adjacent to weld repaired area.

      2. Hardness must be Rockwell C30 to 38.

        NOTE

A coupon of the same alloy and thickness as the weld repaired location is permitted for hardness test. Coupon must be done through the same stress relief cycle as weld repaired area.
    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-146 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection of the Full Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Do a fluorescent penetrant inspection of full turbine exhaust case.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-02-230-501.

        No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-380-061 Shotpeen the Front Outer Flange
