Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-119 Rout Cracks in the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Rout cracks to remove them from the case.

      2. Remove the minimum amount of material.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-111 Stop Drill the Cracks

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Stop drill both ends of the cracks.

      2. Use a drill that is 0.084 to 0.104 in. (2.13 to 2.64 mm) in diameter.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-116 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspect the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Fluorescent penetrant inspect the case to make sure you removed the crack. Cracks must be completely removed.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-110-115 Clean the Areas of the Turbine Exhaust Case to be Repaired

      1. Clean thoroughly the surfaces to be welded and the adjacent heat-affected area. If the cracks go through the case, clean the repair area on both the ID and OD of the case wall.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-310-066 Weld to Repair the Cracks in the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Weld to repair the cracks and the drilled holes in the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Use CoMat 03-378 WELDING WIRE and the GTAW method.

        Refer to the SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-120 Blend the Weld

      1. Blend the weld flush to 0.000 - 0.010 in. (0.000 - 0.254 mm) above the parent material.

      2. Make sure not to remove the adjacent parent material.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-128 Optional, Fluorescent Penetrant Inspect the Repaired Areas

      1. Fluorescent penetrant inspect the repaired areas (optional). Use the medium sensitivity method.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-02-230-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-370-078-001 Stress-Relieve the Turbine Exhaust Case (Locally)

      1. Locally stress relieve the case.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-37-13-370-501, Cycle 6A.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-370-078-002 Stress-Relieve the Turbine Exhaust Case (Oven)

      1. Remove the helicoils at the bearing compartment cover and helicoils at the bearing jumper tube boss.

      2. VRS3014 TASK 72-50-53-300-046 (REPAIR-046) or VRS5392 TASK 72-50-53-300-008 (REPAIR-008).

      1. Remove the 13 nut plates at the inner rear flange.

      2. VRS3019 TASK 72-50-53-300-054 (REPAIR-054) or VRS5413 TASK 72-50-53-300-029 (REPAIR-029).

      1. Remove the three nut plates at the carbon seal flange.

      2. VRS3256 TASK 72-50-53-300-069 (REPAIR-069).

      1. Oven stress-relieve the case.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-37-13-370-501, Cycle 6A.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-096-001 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspect the Repaired Areas (If Locally Stress-Relieved)

      1. Fluorescent penetrant inspect the repaired areas for cracks.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-096-002 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspect the Turbine Exhaust Case (If Furnace Stress-Relieved)

      1. Fluorescent penetrant inspect the case.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-380-060 Shotpeen the Weld Repaired Area (Optional for Inner Cone Weld Seam Crack Repair)

      1. Locally shotpeen the weld repaired areas.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-13-380-501.

        Use an intensity of 6A.

        Use shot type S-110.

        NOTE

        Shotpeen is optional if you weld repair the front outer fairing.

      1. Install the three nutplates at the carbon seal flange, if applicable.

      2. VRS3256 TASK 72-50-53-300-069 (REPAIR-069).

      1. Install the 13 nutplates at the inner rear flange.

      2. VRS3019 TASK 72-50-53-300-054 (REPAIR-054) or VRS5413 TASK 72-50-53-300-029 (REPAIR-029).

      1. Install the helicoils at the bearing compartment cover and the helicoils at the bearing jumper tube boss.

      2. VRS3014 TASK 72-50-53-300-046 (REPAIR-046) or VRS5392 TASK 72-50-53-300-008 (REPAIR-008).

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-216 Inspect the Dimensions of the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Dimensionally inspect the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-50-53-200-000 (Inspection/Check-000).
