TASK 72-41-30-440-001-A00 HPC Front Case And Vane Assembly - Install The HPC Stage 3 Through 6 Rotor Path Rings, Assembly-001 - Pre SBE 72-0027

General

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the Fig/item number.

For standard torque data and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-41-00-400-501, SPM TASK 70-41-01-400-501 and SPM TASK 70-41-02-400-501.

Special torque data and assembly tolerances are included in the procedure.

Lubricate all threads and touch faces of nuts and bolts with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS, unless other lubricants are referred to in the procedure.

To identify, lubricate and install seal rings, refer to the SPM TASK 70-44-01-400-501.

After assembly apply CoMat 07-038 AIR DRYING ENAMEL to any damaged surface protection, joint flanges and parts used to attach. Use the correct colour of the air drying enamel. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-63-02-380-501.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

Refer to Figure for a sectional view of the HP Compressor front case.

The Fits and Clearances, NEW PARTS DIMENSIONS and REJECT IF MORE THAN columns will be used by most operators. This permits the full use of the maximum wear allowance and a reduction in the number of parts which are rejected, is possible.

As long as REJECT IF MORE THAN columns do not include reject values, NEW PART DIMENSIONS do not have to be measured before assembly, as there are no reject-if criteria. Values are only valid for new parts, not for worn parts.

The column WORN PART DIMENSION (Non-select) is included for operators who want to have full interchangeability. If this column is used an increase in the number of parts which are rejected is possible.

After the part has been in service for some time the REJECT IF MORE THAN and WORN PART DIMENSIONS could be changed. The operator must tell IAE and if agreed the manual will be changed.

The abbreviation Intf shows an interference or tight fit. This causes REJECT IF MORE THAN to become REJECT IF LESS THAN.

The abbreviation clear shows a clearance fit.

This TASK gives the procedure to install the HP Compressor Stage 3 to 6 Rotor Path Rings pre SBE 72-0027. The subsequent TASKS give the procedure to assemble the HP Compressor front cases.

Install the HP Compressor Stage 5 and 6 Rotor Path Rings SBE 72-0027TASK 72-41-30-440-001-B00 (ASSEMBLY-001).

Measure and then machine the Stage 6 VSV and the Stage 3 to 6 Rotor Path Rings TASK 72-41-30-440-002-A00 (ASSEMBLY-002).

Install the VIGV TASK 72-41-30-440-003-A00 (ASSEMBLY-003).

Install the Stage 3 VSV TASK 72-41-30-440-004-A00 (ASSEMBLY-004).

Install the Stage 4 VSV TASK 72-41-30-440-005-A00 (ASSEMBLY-005).

Install the Stage 5 VSV TASK 72-41-30-440-006-A00 (ASSEMBLY-006).

Install the Stage 6 VSV TASK 72-41-30-440-007-A00 (ASSEMBLY-007).

Install the VIGV and the Stage 3 to 6 Connector Assemblies TASK 72-41-30-440-008-A00 (ASSEMBLY-008) .

Measure the HP Compressor Front Cases TASK 72-41-30-440-009-A00 (ASSEMBLY-009).

Disassemble the HP Compressor Front Cases TASK 72-41-30-440-010-A00 (ASSEMBLY-0010).

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-440-051 Install the HP Compressor Front Cases onto the Half Location Rings

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Install IAE 1R18249 Lifting tool 2 off onto the HP Compressor upper and lower half front cases rear flanges.

      2. Use a suitable hoist and lift a lifter in to position on each HP Compressor half front case rear flange.

      3. Engage the two location pins on the lifter in the boltholes in the split line flanges.

      4. Adjust the six screws and engage them in six boltholes in the rear flange of each HP Compressor half front case.

    3. Use a suitable hoist and lift the HP Compressor front half cases onto the half location rings. Align the eight boltholes in the two half location rings with eight boltholes in the HP Compressor front cases front flanges.

    4. Install the eight bolts and washers to attach the HP Compressor front half cases to the half location rings. Tighten the bolts.

    5. Remove the two lifters from the HP Compressor front cases rear flanges.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-440-052 Install the Stage 3 and 5 Borescope Blanks

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. test.

      Put the stage 3 borescope blank ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 1-100) into position in the lower half HP Compressor front case.

    4. Apply CoMat 10-072 ANTISEIZE COMPOUND (MoDISULFIDE) or CoMat 10-070 ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND to the two bolts which attach the stage 3 borescope blank to the lower half of the HP Compressor front case.

    5. Install the two bolts ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 1-102) which attach the stage 3 borescope blank to the lower half HP Compressor front case. Torque the bolts to 85 lbfin to 105 lbfin (10.00 Nm to 12.00 Nm).

    6. Put the stage 5 borescope blank ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-140) into position in the lower half HP Compressor front case.

    7. Apply CoMat 10-072 ANTISEIZE COMPOUND (MoDISULFIDE) or CoMat 10-070 ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND to the two screws which attach the stage 5 borescope blank to the lower half of the HP Compressor front case.

    8. Install the two screws ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31,01-142) which attach the stage 5 borescope blank to the lower half HP Compressor front case. Torque the screws to 85 lbfin to 105 lbfin (10.00 Nm to 12.00 Nm).

      1. test.

        Install a support tool blank ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-120) into the upper half HP Compressor front case.

      2. Put the blank into position in the upper half HP Compressor front case.

      3. Apply a thin layer of CoMat 04-005 JOINTING COMPOUND, MEDIUM GRADE onto the face of the bracket ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-115) that will touch the blank. Locate the bracket on the blank.

      4. Apply CoMat 10-072 ANTISEIZE COMPOUND (MoDISULFIDE) or CoMat 10-070 ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND to the two bolts which attach the bracket and the blank to the upper half of the HP Compressor front case.

      5. Install the two bolts ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-122) which attach the bracket and the blank to the upper half HP Compressor front case. Torque the bolts to 85 lbfin to 105 lbfin (10.00 Nm to 12.00 Nm).

      1. Install the two support tool blanks into the lower half HP Compressor front case.

      2. Put the two blanks into position in the lower half HP Compressor front case.

      3. Locate the bracket ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-118) on the blank at the 120 degree position.

      4. Apply CoMat 10-072 ANTISEIZE COMPOUND (MoDISULFIDE) or CoMat 10-070 ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND to the four bolts which attach the bracket and the blanks to the lower half of the HP Compressor front case.

      5. Install the four bolts ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-122) to attach the bracket and the blanks to the lower half HP Compressor front case. Torque the bolts to 85 lbfin to 105 lbfin (10.00 Nm to 12.00 Nm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-440-054 Install the HP Compressor Stage 3 Rotor Path Ring

      NOTE

      1. The HP compressor stage 3 rotor path ring that is installed must be a related set.

      2. The segments must be installed, into the HP compressor front case, from the split line flange opposite to the anti-rotation pin.

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. test.

        Install the two segments of the stage 3 rotor path ring ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-685) into the upper half HP Compressor front case.

      2. Examine the identification marks engraved on the two Stage 3 Rotor Path Ring Segments. If one of the segments is marked with the symbol 'A' in triangle, the marked segment must be installed so that the stop face is not in contact with the anti-rotation pin. If the pair of the ring segments are engraved with the symbol, one must be rejected.

      3. Install one segment of the Stage 3 Rotor Path Ring into the upper half HP Compressor front case. Move the segment until the slot in the segment is against the anti-rotation pin.

      4. Install a sealing strip ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-677) into the slot in the segment at the centre of the upper half HP Compressor front case.

      5. Install a second segment of the stage 3 rotor path ring into the upper half HP Compressor front case. Engage the sealing strip in the slot in the segment. Make sure the two segments are in line with, or below the split line flanges.

      6. Set the clearance between the two segments to the dimensions shown at position A.

      1. Install the two segments of the Stage 3 Rotor Path Ring into the lower half HP Compressor front case.

      2. Install the two segments of the Stage 3 Rotor Path Ring into the lower half HP Compressor front case, as given in Step to Step.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-440-055 Install the HP Compressor Stage 4 Rotor Path Ring

      NOTE

      1. The HP Compressor Stage 4 Rotor Path Ring that is installed must be a related set.

      2. The segments must be installed, into the HP Compressor front case, from the flange opposite to the anti-rotation pin.

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. test.

        Install the segments of the Stage 4 Rotor Path Ring ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-690) into the upper half HP Compressor front case.

      2. Examine the identification marks engraved on the two Stage 4 Rotor Path Ring Segments. If one of the segments is marked with the symbol 'A' in triangle, the marked segment must be installed so that the stop face is not in contact with the anti-rotation pin. If the pair of the ring segments are engraved with the symbol, one must be rejected.

      3. Install one segment of the Stage 4 Rotor Path Ring into the upper half HP Compressor front case. Move the segment until the slot in the segment is against the anti-rotation pin.

      4. Install a sealing strip ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-678) into the slot in the segment at the center of the upper half HP Compressor front case.

      5. Install a second segment of the Stage 4 Rotor Path Ring into the upper half HP Compressor front case. Engage the sealing strip in the slot in the segment. Make sure the two segments are in line with or below the split line flanges.

      6. Set the clearance between the two segments to the dimensions shown at position A.

      1. Install the segments of the Stage 4 Rotor Path Ring into the lower half HP Compressor front case.

      2. Install the two segments of the stage 4 rotor path ring and the sealing strip into the lower half HP compressor front case as given in Step to Step.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-440-056 Install the HP Compressor Stage 5 Rotor Path Ring

      NOTE

      1. The HP Compressor Stage 5 Rotor Path Ring that is installed must be a related set.

      2. The segment must be installed, into the HP Compressor front case, from the flange opposite to the anti-rotation pin.

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. test.

        Install the segments of the Stage 5 Rotor Path Ring ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-695) into the upper half HP Compressor front case.

      2. Examine the identification marks engraved on the two Stage 5 Rotor Path Ring Segments. If one of the segments is marked with the symbol 'A' in triangle, the marked segment must be installed so that the stop face is not in contact with the anti-rotation pin. If the pair of the ring segments are engraved with the symbol, one must be rejected.

      3. Install one segment of the Stage 5 Rotor Path Ring into the upper half HP Compressor front case. Move the segment until the slot in the segment is against the anti-rotation pin.

      4. Install a sealing strip ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-679) into the slot in the segment at the centre of the upper half HP Compressor front case.

      5. Install a second segment of the Stage 5 Rotor Path Ring into the upper half HP Compressor front case. Engage the sealing strip in the slot in the segment. Make sure the two segments are in line with, or below the split line flanges.

      6. Set the clearance between the two segments to the dimensions shown at position A.

      1. Install the segments of the Stage 5 Rotor Path Ring into the lower half HP Compressor front case.

      2. Install the two segments of the Stage 5 Rotor Path Ring and the sealing strip in to the lower half HP Compressor front case, as given in Step to Step.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-440-057 Install the HP Compressor Stage 6 Rotor Path Ring

      NOTE

      1. The HP Compressor Stage 6 Rotor Path that is installed must be a related set.

      2. The segments must be installed into the front HP Compressor case, from the flange opposite to the anti-rotation pin.

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. test.

        Install the segments of the stage 6 rotor path ring ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-700) into the upper half HP Compressor front case.

      2. Examine the identification marks engraved on the two stage 6 rotor path ring segments. If one of the segments is marked with the symbol 'A' in triangle, the marked segment must be installed so that the stop face is not in contact with the anti-rotation pin. If the pair of the ring segments are engraved with the symbol, one must be rejected.

      3. Install one segment of the Stage 6 Rotor Path Ring into the upper half HP Compressor front case. Move the segment until the slot in the segment is against the anti-rotation pin.

      4. Install a sealing strip ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-680) into the slot in the segment at the center of the upper half HP Compressor front case.

      5. Install a second segment of the Stage 6 Rotor Path Ring into the upper half HP Compressor front case. Engage the sealing strip in the slot in the segment. Make sure the two segments are in line with or below the split line flanges.

      6. Set the clearance between the two segments to the dimensions shown at position A.

      1. Install the segments of the Stage 6 Rotor Path Ring into the lower half HP Compressor front case.

      2. Install the two segments of the stage 6 rotor path ring and the sealing strip in to the lower half HP Compressor front case, as given in Step to Step.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-440-058 Install the HP Compressor Split Line Flange Bolts

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. test.

      Install IAE 1R18249 Lifting tool 2 off onto the rear flange of the HP Compressor half cases as given in Step.

    4. Use a suitable hoist and lift the two HP Compressor half cases from the stand onto a inspection table. Carefully lower the HP Compressor half cases onto the inspection table.

    5. Remove the two lifting tools from the HP Compressor half cases.

      1. Install the sealing strips.

      2. Install two sealing strips ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-677) into the slots in the segments at the split line flange, of the Stage 3 Rotor Path Ring ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-690).

      3. Install two sealing strips ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-678) into the slots in the segments at the split line flange, of the Stage 4 Rotor Path Ring ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-690).

      4. Install two sealing strips ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-679) into the slots in the segments, at the split line flange, of the Stage 5 Rotor Path Ring ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-695).

      5. Install two sealing strips ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-680) into the slots in the segments at the split line flange, of the Stage 6 Rotor Path Ring ENGINE-HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASES (72-41-31, 01-700).

    6. Align the HP Compressor front cases split line flanges. Make sure the sealing strips installed in Step. are correctly engaged in the opposite rotor path ring segment.

    7. CAUTION

      YOU MUST NOT LET THE BOLTS TURN WHEN YOU INSTALL THEM. THE BOLTS ARE A CLOSE TOLERANCE FIT.

      Install the two bolts ENGINE-SECURING FEATURES-HP COMPRESSOR CASES (72-41-00, 01-112) and nuts ENGINE-SECURING FEATURES-HP COMPRESSOR CASES (72-41-00, 01-101) at the positions 31 and 13. Install the 30 bolts ENGINE-SECURING FEATURES-HP COMPRESSOR CASES (72-41-00, 01-108), spacers ENGINE-SECURING FEATURES-HP COMPRESSOR CASES (72-41-00, 01-104) and nuts ENGINE-SECURING FEATURES-HP COMPRESSOR CASES (72-41-00, 01-102) at the remaining positions. Lightly tighten the nuts.

      1. Examine the HP Compressor front cases at the split line flanges to make sure:

      2. The alignment is correct.

      3. The sealing strips are correctly engaged.

    8. CAUTION

      YOU MUST NOT LET THE BOLTS TURN WHEN YOU TORQUE THE NUTS. THE BOLTS ARE A CLOSE TOLERANCE FIT.

      Torque the nuts to 180 lbfin to 220 lbfin (20.00 Nm to 25.00 Nm). Refer to Figure for the sequence to torque the nuts.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-440-059 Assemble the Checking Fixture, the Support Stand and the Foot Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. test.

      Put IAE 1R18202 Support stand 1 off onto the IAE 1R18233 Foot support 1 off. Install the attachment pin to attach the support stand to the foot assembly.

    4. Attach a suitable hoist to IAE 1R18031 Checking fixture 1 off lifting eyes.

    5. Lift the checking fixture onto the support stand. Align the six holes in the support stand and the checking fixture.

    6. Install the six attachment bolts to attach the checking fixture to the support stand. Tighten the six attachment bolts.

    7. Remove the hoist.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-440-060 Install the HP Compressor Front Case on to the Checking Fixture

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. CAUTION

        MAKE SURE ALL THE TOOL FACES AND HP COMPRESSOR FRONT CASE FACES THAT TOUCH ARE CLEAN AND ARE NOT DEFECTIVE.

        test.

        Install IAE 1R18205 Lifting tool 1 off onto the HP Compressor front case rear flange.

      2. Release the six adjusting screws on the two clamps.

      3. Remove the six bolts and washers which attach the two clamps to the lifting tool. Remove the two clamps.

      4. Use a hoist and lift the lifting tool on the HP Compressor front case rear flange. Align the lifting tool with the HP Compressor front case rear flange.

      5. Put the two clamps in position on the lifting tool and the HP Compressor front case rear flange. Align the slots in the clamps with the holes in the lifting tool.

      6. Install the six bolts and washers to attach the two clamps to the lifting tool. Tighten the six bolts sufficiently to hold the clamps in their positions.

      7. Tighten the six adjusting screws to lift the clamps until they touch the HP Compressor front case rear flange.

      8. Tighten the six bolts to safety the two clamps to the lifting tool.

    3. Remove the eight bolts and washers which attach the HP Compressor front cases to the two location half rings.

      1. Install the HP Compressor front case on the checking fixture.

      2. Use the hoist attached to the lifting tool.

      3. Lift the HP Compressor front case and carefully put it into position on the checking fixture. Align the four dowels and the eight studs on the checking fixture with the correct holes in the HP Compressor case front flange.

      4. Install the eight washers and nuts onto the eight studs. Tighten the nuts to safety the assembly.

      1. Remove the lifting tool.

      2. Release the six adjusting screws which adjust the two clamps.

      3. Remove the six bolts and washers which attach the two clamps to the lifting tool.

      4. Remove the two clamps.

      5. Use the hoist and remove the lifting tool.
