General

This TASK gives the procedure for the procedure for the inspection of the HPT after a possible titanium ignition event.

The policy that is necessary for inspection is given in SPM TASK 70-20-00-200-501.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-45-00-220-230 Examine HPT After Possible Titanium Ignition Event

      1. Examine the Stage 2 HPT Blade Assembly

      2. Refer to TASK 72-45-32-200-001-A00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-001), TASK 72-45-32-200-001-B00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-002) and TASK 72-45-32-200-001-C00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-003)

      3. Do a careful inspection of the blade roots. Look for indication of overtemperature. Examine a minimum of four blades for overtemperature. Do not remove two blades from the same quadrant.

        1. If blade root microstructure shows there is change (due to elevated temperature)

        2. Reject Stage 2 HPT blade retainig plate, Stage 1 HPT air seal (outer), Stage 2 turbine hub, Stage 1 turbine hub, Stage 1 HPT duct segments, Stage 1 HPT band segments and the Stage 1 HPT duct support

        1. If blade root microstructure shows there is change (due to elevated temperature)

        2. Reject Stage 2 high pressure turbine (HPT) air seal but not before you examine it by step J. (3) of this procedure

        1. If there is molten debris

        2. Reject

        1. If the HPT Stage 2 blades passed inspection, do an Airflow Check on HPT Stage 2 Blade Assembly.

          1. Do an airflow check on HPT Stage 2 blade assembly

          2. Refer to Repair, VRS3711 TASK 72-45-32-300-027 (REPAIR-027) or VRS3713 TASK 72-45-32-300-028 (REPAIR-028)

      1. Examine Stage 1 HPT blades

      2. Refer to TASK 72-45-14-200-001-A00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-001), TASK 72-45-14-200-001-B00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-002), TASK 72-45-14-200-001-C00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-003) and TASK 72-45-14-200-001-D00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-004)

      3. Do a careful inspection of the blade roots. Do an overtemperature inspection. Examine a minimum of four blades for overtemperature condition. Do not remove two blades from the same quadrant.

        1. If blade root microstructure shows there is change (due to elevated temperature)

        2. Reject Stage 1 HPT air seal (outer), Stage 1 turbine hub, Stage 1 HPT band segment and the Stage 1 HPT duct support

        1. If the blade root has experienced overtemperature

        2. Reject Stage 2 HPT air seal but not before you examine it by Step of this procedure

        1. If there is molten debris

        2. Reject

      4. If the Stage 1 HPT blades passed inspection, do an Airflow Check of the Stage 1 HPT blades.

        1. Do an airflow check on the HPT Stage 1 blades

        2. Refer to Repair, VRS3710 TASK 72-45-14-300-031 (REPAIR-031) or VRS3712 TASK 72-45-32-300-026 (REPAIR-026)

      1. Examine the Stage 1 HPT Vane Assembly

      2. Refer to TASK 72-44-20-200-001-A01 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-001) and TASK 72-44-20-200-001-B01 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-002)

      3. Do a careful inspection of the cooling air holes. Look for apparent blockage.

        1. If there is molten debris in the cooling holes

        2. Reject

      1. Examine the Stage 2 HPT Ring Segment and Vane Clusters

      2. Refer to TASK 72-45-24-200-002-A00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-001), TASK 72-45-24-200-002-B00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-002), TASK 72-45-24-200-002-C00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-003), TASK 72-45-24-200-002-D00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-004), TASK 72-45-24-200-002-E00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-005), TASK 72-45-24-200-002-F00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-006) and TASK 72-45-24-200-002-G00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-007)

      3. Do a careful inspection of the trailing edge cooling air slots. Look for apparent blockage.

        1. If there is molten debris in the cooling holes

        2. Reject

      1. Examine the Stage 1 HPT Duct Segments if it was not rejected before

      2. Refer to TASK 72-45-23-200-004-A00 (INSPECTION-004, CONFIG-001), TASK 72-45-23-200-004-B00 (INSPECTION-004, CONFIG-002), TASK 72-45-23-200-004-C00 (INSPECTION-004, CONFIG-003) and TASK 72-45-23-200-004-D00 (INSPECTION-004, CONFIG-004)

      3. Do a careful airflow check.

        1. If there is molten debris

        2. Reject

      1. Examine the Stage 1 HPT Band Segments if they have not been rejected before

      2. Refer to TASK 72-45-23-200-001-A00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-001), TASK 72-45-23-200-001-B00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-002) and TASK 72-45-23-200-001-C00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-003)

        1. If there is molten debris

        2. Reject

      1. Examine the Stage 1 Duct Support if it has not been rejected before

      2. Refer to TASK 72-45-22-200-001-A00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-001), TASK 72-45-22-200-001-B00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-002) and TASK 72-45-22-200-001-C00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-003)

        1. If there is molten debris

        2. Reject

      1. Do an inspection of all life limited parts. Report unusual findings or out of limit dimensions to IAE Technical Services. Reject parts if there is molten debris.

        1. If not rejected before, examine the Stage 2 HPT blade retaining plate

        2. Refer to TASK 72-45-33-200-001-A00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-001), TASK 72-45-33-200-001-B00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-002)

        1. If not rejected before, examine the Stage 1 HPT air seal (outer)

        2. Refer to TASK 72-45-12-200-001-A00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-001), TASK 72-45-12-200-001-B00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-002), TASK 72-45-12-200-001-C00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-003) and TASK 72-45-12-200-001-D00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-004)

        1. Examine the Stage 2 HPT air seal

        2. Refer to TASK 72-45-00-200-002-A00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-001), TASK 72-45-00-200-002-B00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-002), TASK 72-45-00-200-002-C00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-003), TASK 72-45-00-200-002-D00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-004), TASK 72-45-00-200-002-E00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-005), TASK 72-45-00-200-002-F00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-006), TASK 72-45-00-200-002-G00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-007), TASK 72-45-00-200-002-H00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-008) and TASK 72-45-00-200-002-I00 (INSPECTION-002, CONFIG-009)

          1. Report results to IAE Technical Services. If the airseal is pre SB 72-0534

          2. Reject the airseal after inspection

          1. If it has not been rejected before, examine the Stage 1 turbine hub.

            1. Examine the Stage 1 turbine hub

            2. Refer to TASK 72-45-11-200-001-A00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-001), TASK 72-45-11-200-001-B00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-002), TASK 72-45-11-200-001-C00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-003) and TASK 72-45-11-200-001-D00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-004)

            1. Examine the Stage 1 turbine hub

            2. Refer to TASK 72-45-11-200-002 (INSPECTION-002)

          1. If it has not been rejected before, examine the Stage 2 turbine hub.

            1. Examine the Stage 2 turbine hub

            2. Refer to TASK 72-45-31-200-001-A00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-001), TASK 72-45-31-200-001-B00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-002), TASK 72-45-31-200-001-C00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-003), TASK 72-45-31-200-001-D00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-004) and TASK 72-45-31-200-001-E00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-005)

            1. Examine the Stage 2 turbine hub

            2. Refer to TASK 72-45-31-200-004 (INSPECTION-004)

            1. Examine the Stage 2 turbine hub

            2. Refer to TASK 72-45-31-200-005-A00 (INSPECTION-005, CONFIG-001)

        1. If it has not been rejected before, examine the Stage 1 HPT air seal

        2. Refer to TASK 72-45-13-200-001-A00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-001), TASK 72-45-13-200-001-B00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-002), TASK 72-45-13-200-001-C00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-003), TASK 72-45-13-200-001-D00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-004), TASK 72-45-13-200-001-E00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-005), TASK 72-45-13-200-001-F00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-006), TASK 72-45-13-200-001-G00 (INSPECTION-001, CONFIG-007)

    2. Take photographs of all of the damaged parts. Inform IAE Technical Services.
